Walmart announced that it will raise wages for its Sam's Club employees Tuesday, in an apparent attempt to keep up with Costco in a retail wage race.

Entry-level workers will see wages start at $16 per hour, an increase from the $15 per hour set three years ago, according to a press release from Walmart, Sam’s Club’s parent company. The company also says wage increases will rise between 3% and 6% based on seniority so workers can gain maximum compensation quicker.

In advance of the busy holiday season, the Walmart-owned retailer is revamping the way it compensates employees to “accelerate” pay increases. Uncle Sam wants you . . . to get a raise.
