Beaches in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia announced they were closed to swimmers Sunday due to medical waste that washed ashore.

Officials are warning people to stay out of the ocean at several beaches in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia after they say medical waste, including hypodermic needles, washed ashore

Beachgoers were urged to stay out of the water after dozens of hypodermic needles, as well as tampon applicators and other medical waste, were found on beaches over the weekend.
