I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. You pay $20 per person. Children under 5 years old were free. You get a map of stops with explanations to walk to. You start at the looko… Full review by Shylock34

We homeschool and visit a lot of museum as a result. This is probably the best living history museum we’ve been to. It’s 100% “please touch”. Not lecture heavy. Not preachy. The kids explore and beco… Full review by jmasc1

Literally one of the best days of my life. I’m a Laura Ingalls fan, but nothing extreme… however, this is literally a beautiful experience. Our family took our time and spent almost 6 hours here on a… Full review by M3678RXsarahm

Yes, you can bring your own food, there is tables available for eating, or you can spread a blanket on the prairie. You may also bring your doggie if you have one. We had a WONDERFUL time there. Everyone is kind. If you are able, don't miss the chance to spend the night in one of the covered wagons! What a blast that was.

Will be visiting with my two teenagers. They read the books in 4th grade so we would love to stop and see the Little House memorabilia and buildings. Not sure if it's worth $12 at the Homestead as they may not enjoy the activities geared for younger kids. I would appreciate input from those who have been. We also plan to visit Mansfield, MO and stop by Walnut Grove to eat at Nellie's . Thanks!

Hi Michelle, Since previous visitors have not yet chimed in, I thought I'd at least give you my opinion, biased though it may be. Teenagers often enjoy visiting us, even when they don't always expect to have fun. It will very much depend on your teenagers' interest level in Laura and history, if they like animals and being outside, and, if your teenagers are like mine, their ability to have fun with 'mom' around. They are welcome to participate in any of the activities, we do not limit this just to younger children. You can do as much or as little as you like and be on the grounds for as long as you like. I am sure you're already aware, but I do think they would like visiting the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society and some of the other places there are to visit in De Smet. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions. And I hope a few others provide their perspective. Safe Travels - Ann
